soooooooooooo the wedding!!!
well first thing on saturday morning me, my mum, dad and sister got up, had chocolate croissants and then us girlies went to the hairdressers. my sister had hers done mostly straight with a few flicky out bits, and some ickle tiny plaits in. she had a medieval style headband over the top, one that goes straight across the forehead. i had mine done sooooo straight with ceramic plate straighteners ( i gotta get me some of them). i had a thin jewlelled hairband that went half way back, the back of my hair was parted off, slightly backcombed underneath to give it a bit of body, and then at each side of the front i had a plait that disappeared after a few inches. it looked great. my mum just had hers nicely set cos she has pretty short hair.
we ran over time by about 20 mins at the hairdressers as 2 stylists were seeing to 3 of us, so everything was a little rushed from there. when we got back to my sisters house the florist had already been. we had very modern but very pretty boquest with dark purple lillies in. the photographers had already arrived too. they photographers whole take on wedding photos is great. they do the usual formal photos to start with and then for the rest of the day they just walk round snapping pictures of people without them realising it. i've seen their work before. they always seem to manage to capture something about the character of the person they're photographing, rather than just a plastic smile.
so anyway, we got dressed, i realised the tights i'd bought were sooooooo orange, but thankfully my mum had a spare pair that were a bit nicer colour. we had just enough time to have a couple of glasses of very expensive pink champagne before heading off to the venue. the wedding and lunchtime reception were held as a place called Baslow Fischers Hall, which is like a mini stately home/manor house, in north west derbyshire. its soooooooo nice there.
anyhoo my mum and me drove up there, closely followed by my dad and sister in my uncles very posh dark green mercedes. everyone else went inside and me, my sister and my dad prepared ourselves outside. we were all a little emotinal already, alison looked sooooooo beautiful. and then suddenly it was time to go in.
we walked in, nice and slowly, to Gluck - Dance of The Blessed Spirits, which is a beautiful piece of music. The room the wedding was held in was quite small, with most people stood up around the outside of the room, and just close family, me and the witnesses sat down. it was quite a quick ceremony, not too much waffle, but some beautiful moments. At the point the bride and groom had to turn to each other and say their vows i thought i was gonna start crying, but i managed to stop as i knew i had to do a reading soon. The reading i did was by A A Milne, creator of Winnie The Pooh. Alison and Stephen chose it, it has great relevance:
Us Two from Now We are Six - A.A. Milne (1882-1956)
Wherever I am, there's always Pooh,
There's always Pooh and Me.
Whatever I do, he wants to do,
"Where are you going today?" says Pooh...
"Well, that's very odd 'cos I was too.
"Let's go together," says Pooh, says he.
"Let's go together," says Pooh.
"Let's look for dragons," I said to Pooh.
"Yes, let's," said Pooh to Me.
We crossed the river and found a few...
"Yes, those are dragons all right," said Pooh.
"As soon as I saw their beaks I knew.
That's what they are," said Pooh, said he.
"That's what they are," said Pooh.
"Let's frighten the dragons," I said to Pooh.
"That's right," said Pooh to Me.
"I'm not afraid," I said to Pooh,
And I held his paw and I shouted "Shoo!
Silly old dragons!"... and off they flew.
"I wasn't afraid," said Pooh, said he,
"I'm never afraid with you."
So wherever I am, there's always Pooh,
There's always Pooh and Me.
"What would I do?" I said to Pooh,
"If it wasn't for you," and Pooh said... "True,
It isn't much fun for One, but Two
Can stick together," says Pooh, says he.
"That's how it is," says Pooh.
I'd never even said the poem out loud before so i was pretty scared, but everyone said i did it really really well and i bought a tear to a few eyes too, including my own! All the way through it i couldnt help but look at Alison and Stephen and at one point i caught alisons eyes watering and i thought i was gonna blub, but i just about managed not to.
So after the ceremony we all went into the gardens to get pictures done, It was a roasting hot day and most people, including me, caught the sun quite a bit. In between photos i mingled around, and everyone was really friendly and complimentary, which always makes you feel good. There were waiters bringing out Pims or orange juice, and there was one girl who kept making a bee line for me each time she cam out with a fresh jug... i liked that girl :o)
We then had a sit down meal. The courses were only quite small but they were soooooooo nice it was untrue!! We also had lots of wine and champers... and then came the speeches. Firstly the father of the bride, my dad. His speech was brilliant, i think many of us were quite shocked by how good it was as he's a really shy and introverted person, but he did so well, we were all proud. And then it was the best mans turn, the grooms brother. This was also a great speech with some funny stories from Stephens past, like the fact that when he was little he had 7 (dont know why 7) imaginary ducks that followed him around!!! Then the bride and groom both did a little speech thanking everyone for coming, and thanking me and the best man for carrying out our duties etc. My sister was a little teary at the end of hers, but it all went very well.
After that was done i mingled around, filling the guestbook i had been given to do. It was a beautiful book with a couple of lovely poems wriiten in by alisons next door neighbour. what everyone was asked to do was write something nice and then i would take their picture with an I-zone camera - one of the mini polaroid ones where the photos are stickers. i managed to get round most people, and was even given the camera by my sister the next day!!!
anyhoo, then it was onto the reception. this was in a nice little pub in the middle of nowhere. more of alisons friends turned up, who are all mad, and made sure i got nicely drunk for free. the food was delicious too!!! later in the evening there was a singer who did all sorts of stufff, and we danced the night away in our bare feet!!!
after the evening do was over we all headed off to a nearby hotel where i had my own ensuite room with cable tv!!
there was one downside to the day, it was the first time i'd felt bad about being single since i split up with rob. At the wedding everyone just seemed to assume that i would have a partner with me and looked at me like i'd just farted when i said i was single. the first few times didnt really bother me, but i got a little more sensitive as i drank more, and ended up feeling very lonely by the end of the night. the last song they played was angels by robbie williams, which i love, but i went and hid in the toilet and had a cry when it came on. i know i'm bound to feel like this from time to time and it really isnt me who has a problem, its the people who assumed that i would have a boyfriend, but it did really upset me for a good while.
anyhoo, the next morning we had a cooked breakfast in the hotel before heading back to my sisters. later in the day some of the grooms family came over and we had a bbq, which was lovely.
The bride and groom have gone on their honeymoon now. First they spend 2 nights in london, where they have front room seats for the west end production of chicago. Then they fly out to Venezuala for 2 weeks :o) i wish i had such a good holiday to go on!!!! My mum and dad are staying in my sisters house for 2 weeks with the dogs, to make sure their cat charlie is ok. I get to go home tomorrow :o) and i'll be in the swan from 5pm!!!!
The other bad thing about this weekend is that i realise that my family still very much view me as a child and treat me with about as much respect as one. they also use me as a bit of a scapegaot and a scratching post. whenever theyre stressed it always seems to be taken out on me in some way grrrrrrrr i guess it'll wear off in time.
anyhoo, i'm off to get some tea xxxxxxx
p.s. there'll be photos of the wedding online very soon :o)
