oooh what a day yesterday

after the bus was pulled out of the dock things clamed down a bit and the day carried on as usual. that was until Shirley, who's on my team and pregnant, took a turn for the worse. she has a mad dizzy spell and started getting pains on one side of her tummy. after a while an ambulance was called and i ended up going with her in the ambulance to the womens hospital. no lights or sirens tho :o( they gave shirley oxygen as she was short of breath too.

we got to the womens hospital, escorted by 3 nice ambulance men. we were taken straight to the delivery suite (not that they thought she was giving birth or anything) and after a short while the midwife came in to see us. she asked a massive load of questions, took a blood test and urine test and then put her on a heart monitor and also strapped one to the bump to monitor the babies heart. they monitored her blood pressure at regular intervals and they also put a contraction monitor on the bump just in case.

we were then left for ages whilst the babies heart was monitored and then the midwife came back and had a look, and they were having difficulty getting readings cos of the way the baby was lying, so the monitor pad had to be held in a certain position tight to the bump. at one point the midwife had to do other stuff so she asked if i'd like to hold the monitor in place, which i did gladly. i got to listen to the babies heart and felt it kick a few times too!! it made me sooooo broody!!!!!

after what seemed like an age the doctor came round and asked more questions and poked and prodded and then went away again. she came back later and said that shirley was going to be moved to the ward and they werent sure if she was going to be kept in or not. she then decided a little later that she was definitley going to be kept in as she was very anaemic. she'd been taking iron tablets but also been sick a lot due to morning sickness so they hadnt had much effect. theyre gonna do more tests today and possible give her some injections for the anaemia. they also said that if it got worse she might have to have a transfusion, but it should need to come to that.

so i had to phone her dad, who was understandably startled to hear she was in the delivery suite, but i had to reassure him that she wasnt in labour and it wasnt anything too serious. he couldnt come straight away as he was minding shirleys daughter for the day and had to get her sorted out and stuff first, so i stayed with shirley for a while.

after the hospital i went for a chippie tea at lees as i was starving. chilled out for a bit and then headed into town to the Flute for Lexy and Phils engagement do. When we arrived there were quite a few people there, both allys friends and phils friends were there. it was a nice atmosphere, everyone chatting and having a laugh.

i spent the first half an hour or so mingling around everyone as i knew most people that were there. even tony, sweeney and tommy were there. allys brother gaz was there too and took great pleasure in showing me his new tongue piercing. i'm definitely getting mine done at the end of the month. i have 10 days off from the 21st onwards so i'm gonna do it then :o)

so all in all it was a nice evening, quite subdued but very pleasant. i went home at about 11.30 as i'm short of cash and i had work in the morning. most of the others went to the KH but i wasnt in the mood for it anyway. I really missed joolia not being there, but i know she'll be back on form and causing mischief with me again soon :o) get well soon hunny *hugs*
