went to see ji, atonal and mexican alibi last night at the fudge. lees brother works with mike from Ji so we had free tickets, which is always good :o) we had a buttie and a few pints in the swan and we were joined by grandmaster flump, mike and mark before heading down.
i was greeted by ben from atonal, who i used to teach, who informed me it was his 18th birthday!!! god that made me feel old, i started teaching him when he was 15!!!! bless!
mexican alibi were on first, their first couple of songs were great but after that they went a bit poo! their songs werent particularly powerful or catchy and for some reason they decided to play a couple of new songs that they obviously hadnt mastered and hadnt even written a bass part for!!!! so that was a bit disappointing.
Ji were on next. they were excellent from the first song. catchy tunes, excellent driving bass lines, expert guitar playing and brilliant drumming. they really are rising stars who, like secondnature and atonal, just need that big break!! i was really impressed by them and loved every song in their set.
atonal were on last, but the absence of their lead guitarist jon raised a few eyebrows. apparently hes "in manchester doing the manchester thing", there was definitley a lot of anymosity there! the website doesnt explain further either, so who knows what has happened. atonal will suffer a great loss if jon has left permanently, but they'll survive and still be as great :o) i didnt stay for all their set as i was sooooooo sleepy, but they were brilliant as always.
am going to see underworld tonight with lee, it looks really good, we shall see :o)
