me and rob went into town yesterday, i got bright red synthetic streaks put in my hair, and then we wandered up toward the swan. we saw a few workmen type people there and some bar staff, and we were informed that it would be opening at 5!!! we then texted and phoned people to tell them the good news!!!

we arrived outside again at 5ish, only to be told that it wasnt quite ready yet...so we waited, along with an ever increasing amount of people for them to open the doors!! when we got in at 5.15ish, there were about 30 people in with us. the first thing i noticed was that there was a strong smell of paint (not musty for once) and it was very bright. downstairs has been painted cream, the beams have gone, and it has been extended about 10 feet backwards. for a while the brightness was difficult to deal with, but they turned some of the lights off after a while to everyones relief.

the same old juke box is there, and it was a very sentimental moment (if a brief one) when the first song that was played was nirvana - smells like teen spirit. the old cigarette machine is there as are the old pics of the old guy with a beard, marilyn monroe, a harley (i think) and the other bits and pieces. the actual bar is the same too, but i think thats protected or something. the traditional stained glass window isnt there at the moment, its being repaired, but it'll be back.

the first floor has changed too. firstly the toliets have been totally re-done. the girls loo's now have ncie blue tiling throughout, 3 toilets that flush, and 3 sinks with hot running water, and a hand drier!! no mirrors yet but we'll let them off.the bar area has changed, theres no padded seats, mirrors or zebra print anywhere!! theres new wooden floor boards there, like the rest of the pub. its looks pretty much the same, just a bit smarter, but still the same old atmosphere.

theres a new floor now, it doesnt have a bar, but it has 6 or so sofas to chill out on.there a kind of balcony at one end kind of overlooking the upstairs bar, which is pretty. all the flooring has been replaced, the stairs all have new lino type stuff on them, and everywhere has had a fresh coat of paint.

me and rob were joined by tony, swee, his girfriend laura, skippy, alan, paul and others and we all agreed that its good to be back home :o)

went out last night after the swan to Le Bateau's toxic city night. its was a cool night, danced for ages and ages and had loads of fun. rob and me were having a discussion earlier in the evening that he could drink me under the table, or not. it turned out that he couldnt even get close as he was the one that ended up throwing up in the club and not me. oh how i laughed!!!
